A Path Toward Reconciliation
A Heartfelt Apology
At First Congregational, we believe that healing starts with honesty. We recognize that many individuals have experienced pain within the walls of the church, and we are committed to acknowledging those past hurts as we strive to build a more inclusive future.
To Our Community
We write to you today with heavy hearts and a sincere desire for reconciliation. We recognize that for some, the church has not always been a place of sanctuary, but rather a source of pain, exclusion, or judgment. For every moment we failed to embody the radical love and radical welcome of Christ, we are deeply sorry. We acknowledge the 'church hurt' that many in Emporia have experienced and the moments where our actions or our silence caused harm. We ask for your forgiveness as we seek to learn from our past and listen to your stories with humility and openness. Our door is open, not as a place that has all the answers, but as a community committed to doing better.
With humility and hope,
The Leadership of FCCE
Our Commitments to Change
Safe Spaces & Inclusion
Our church is committed in being a safe space for all. We want all of God's creation to feel safe, welcome, and included here.Â
Transparent Leadership
We commit to radical transparency in our decision-making processes. Our leadership sessions include opportunities for feedback to ensure every voice is heard and valued.
Continuous Reconciliation
Healing is an ongoing journey. Our pastor is passionate about healing the past hurts our church has caused and is eager to offer pastoral care to help you find healing and a relationship with God. Â
Share Your Story
Your voice matters. If you wish to speak with our pastoral team, share your experience, or ask questions about our path forward, we are here to listen with humility and respect. Every story shared is a step toward communal healing.
